The game that I want to create for my Final Major Project is going to be a first person perspective survival game.The Setting of my game takes place during the Mesoamerican Mayan Era, where the player comes back from a long hunting expedition only to realise the once thriving settlement you have come to know has become a ghost town.The player’s main motivation and purpose is to explore an abandoned Mayan Temple that has been lost to time radiating an almost ‘demonic’ presence.
The reason why I chose to pick South American Culture (Mayan) as the genre of my game was because I wanted to try something unique and make this project stand out from my previous works. My main purpose is to provide a distinctive and innovative experience for the player.I want the player to be fully immersed in the Mayan culture and experience a journey like no other.My main aim is to provide the player with a sense of fulfilment,achievement,mystery and tension hoping the player captures the true essence of ‘Eloy’ the Mayan Warrior.
I chose to set my game in the Mayan Era because of two reasons the first one being I had a desire to distance myself from the previous works I did and attempt to accomplish a game that is new and fresh.Whilst making My Sorcerer Room and Cyberpunk infinite Runner games, I already knew a considerable amount about those genres respectively.Granted there are familiar elements to help the game’s artstyle stand out the most prevalent being Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.The whole Mayan theme was a completely new and original idea I wanted to expand upon as was intrigued and mesmerised by the imagery and culture.
The main character of my Game is a young traditional Mayan Warrior called Eloy Hadwin with his name subtly describing his character as the term ‘Eloy’ roughly translates in English to ‘Renowned Warrior’ as he’s widely acclaimed by his tribe for being a skilled hunter and his Surname ‘Hadwin’ translating ‘To be Strong’ which quite clearly illustrates the type of character the player is controlling similar to main characters like Kratos in God of War.
When it came to designing the Protagonist of my Final Major Project I wanted to create something idiosyncratic and unforgettable that would stand out from my other projects,so I used some influences from the Anime and Manga Series Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure mainly Part 7’s Artstyle.As I was aiming for a more relative realistic artstyle as well as Jujutsu Kaisen in terms of Shading and the more supernatural elements.
In terms of Art Style I was mainly inspired by Hirohiko Araki the author and illustrator of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki.Consisting mainly of Part 5 Vento Aureo and Part 7 Steel Ball Run.The reason why I wanted to include this artstyle is because I was enamoured by the unique artstyle and believe if done correctly it could help my character stand out from my other works.I also incorporated elements from Jojo Part 2 Battle Tendency that has a lot of Aztec and Mayan influences, which can be seen in the main Antagonists The Pillar Men (Wamuu,Kars and ACDC)
In terms of Art style for the more supernatural elements of my game I decided to take some influences from Jujutsu Kaisen.This decision was made mainly because I really admire the designs as they gave an unsettling and otherworldly presence,which would be a perfect match to implement into the barbaric polytheistic Mayan Culture.A brief example of what I plan to achieve for my game while the player is exploring the abandoned tombs of the Mayan Temple the lighting will be dark,sinister and unnerving keeping the player in anticipation throughout the whole game.
I also took influence from Uncharted 2 Among Thieves is a third person action adventure game where the player takes control of the main character Nathan Drake (Nolan North) is approached by former associate Harry Flynn (Steve Valentine) and Flynn's associate Chloe Frazer (Claudia Black) to help steal a Mongolian oil lamp connected to Marco Polo's doomed 1292 voyage from China. The group plans to cheat Flynn's client and take Polo's treasure for themselves. Unbeknownst to Flynn, Chloe and Nate are former partners, and Chloe plans on escaping with Nate afterwards.
Uncharted 2 is an action-adventure platform video game played from a third-person view, with the player in control of Nathan Drake. Drake is physically adept and can jump, climb, and scale narrow ledges and wall faces to get between points.
In terms of the Age rating for my game I decided that the game should be a PEGI 12 mainly because The game doesn’t contain any violence or sexual themes and could possibly be played by any one ages 10 plus.
